Vote YES to accept School Revolving Renovation Fund Grant of $4 Million!

RSU 89, Katahdin Schools has been awarded the competitive School Revolving Renovations Funds (SRRF) Grant from the State of Maine. Our district was one of the highest awardees across the state!

Did you know?

Portions of the outdated building systems are 50 years old? Outdated building ventilation systems can impact student and staff wellness. This may increase absenteeism, headaches, drowsiness, and impaired concentration. The grant funding helps local taxpayers by paying for the necessary HVAC building systems replacement by substantially reducing the local taxpayer burden through a $4 million state grant. 70% of this grant is forgiven by the state of Maine. We are responsible for 30% which will be financed over 10 years at 0% interest. Costs that exceed the $4 million will be financed over 15 years at a competitive rate.

LD 705, a Maine State Law requires school districts to update ventilation systems to meet ASHRAE standards. After a study was conducted in the fall, it was found that portions of both school buildings do not meet these standards.
